Charles R. Yarbro

I was born and raised in Mississippi County, Arkansas. My family farmed. I grew up around cotton, soybeans, livestock, and heavy equipment. My childhood heroes were cowboys. I got my first gun when I was ten years old. Yes, I carried the gun. Daddy carried the ammunition. I had a horse when I was eleven. While other kids in my generation were playing cowboy, I thought I was one. I graduated from Arkansas State University. I served in the United States Air Force. I was a public school teacher and administrator for twenty-eight years.

I married my high school sweetheart, Peggy. We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary in 2004. We have one son, Richard Bret. One of my high school students described me in a writing assignment. The teacher shared the paper with me. The student wrote that I was a “brown haired, blue-eyed, cowboy figure of a man”. Sounds like a good epitaph. I would sum myself up as a man who loves God, his family, and his country.
